WAX TREATMENT
@ GRETCHEN, Obentrautstr. 19-21, 10963 Berlin
"Every sound of the drum you hear is an African beat."
This quote by reggae group Wailing Soul is true today more than ever, because any club music played today in Europe or elsewhere has Africa deeply entrenched in its DNA. At Wax Treatment’s Africa Special, Western producers, DJs, musicians, label owners, and compilers meet their musical ancestors and cousins from the African motherland of repetitive beats – roots and wire.
The musical program will be accompanied by videos, label presentations with record sales, and African and Caribbean food. At Sunday afternoon’s interview panel, musicians, labels, activists, and protagonists will speak about their respective work building bridges and digging for musical treasures.
The daytime program Saturday and Sunday takes place in Gretchen’s new courtyard - on the legendary Jamaican-style Killasan sound system, moving inside the club Sunday night with the deadliest of beats in today’s club scene.
